Mercuriusplein Poeldijk
In the heart of Poeldijk, a remarkable transformation has unfolded at Mercuriusplein, a project that perfectly combines resilience, smart material choices, and lasting design. This month, we are proud to highlight the collaboration between JJK Vastgoed, Visie B.V., Verbakel Bouwbedrijf B.V. and PontMeyer as our Trespa & ArchiComm Netherlands Project of the Month for April 2025.

A New Beginning After Loss
Following a devastating fire in 2014, which severely damaged multiple commercial units, JJK Vastgoed, led by Kirby Olsthoorn and his family, committed to rebuilding the site with a vision for long-term value and durability. With a rich personal history tied to the location, the Olsthoorn family wanted more than just restoration; they aimed to create a future-proof complex that honored the past while embracing new possibilities.
Starting in early 2015, the rebuild brought together a trusted team: architect Richard Kool of Visie B.V., and construction experts Hein Herpers and Mike van der Ven of Verbakel Bouwbedrijf. Their longstanding relationships fostered a seamless collaboration, ensuring that every choice was aligned with the project's high ambitions.

Choosing Trespa® panels for Long-Term Impact
One of the pivotal decisions was the selection of Trespa® Meteon® wood decors for the facade renovation. With its superior durability, low maintenance, and striking aesthetics, Trespa® Meteon® was the clear choice for a site uniquely situated next to-the water. The Pacific-Board (NW04) finish offers a natural, wood-inspired look; a subtle tribute to the vision of Jan Olsthoorn, founder of the family’s first business on this site decades ago.
Approximately 900 m² of Trespa® Meteon® cladding was installed, carefully mounted above the waterline to protect the panels and ensure long-term performance. Thanks to the craftsmanship of Verbakel Bouwbedrijf, even the challenging task of anchoring scaffolding into the water was expertly executed.

Built to Last
Located alongside the water, the buildings at Mercuriusplein demand materials that can withstand the elements without intensive upkeep. The choice for Trespa® Meteon® was both aesthetic and strategic: the Pacific-Board (NW04) surface not only offers a beautiful, natural finish but also reduces the need for ongoing maintenance, protecting operational budgets and ensuring the complex maintains its visual appeal for years to come.

Designing for the Future
The redevelopment of Mercuriusplein is a clear demonstration of how architectural vision, material innovation, and skilled execution come together to create spaces built for longevity. By choosing Trespa® Meteon®, the team not only delivered a facade solution that meets the highest standards of durability and aesthetics but also reinforced the project's commitment to sustainable asset management.
We proudly recognise JJK Vastgoed, Visie B.V., and Verbakel Bouwbedrijf for their forward-thinking approach with our April 2025 Project of the Month.
