Smart Façades – Acoustic Performance with enduring style

In the heart of Lisbon, just steps from the airport, three newly built towers rise with confidence — thanks to the acoustic performance of a ventilated façade cladded with Trespa® Meteon® panels. Designed to meet strict noise insulation laws while achieving a bold architectural vision, this project proves that sound control and aesthetics can go hand in hand.

Design Meets Performance

The project faced challenges related to noise control due to its proximity to Lisbon Airport. It needed to comply with strict local sound insulation standards: ≥28 dB for sensitive zones and ≥33 dB for mixed-use areas, as specified in Decree Law 96/2008 of 9 June, Art. 5.1. With Trespa® Meteon® in a ventilated façade system, the buildings reached an impressive 45 dB, exceeding requirements.

Architect Susana Costa and her team at Ao Contrario chose Trespa for its balance of design, durability, and acoustic efficiency:

“Trespa® Meteon® stood out as the best option, adding value to the project and fitting perfectly with the architectural language we envisioned,” Architect Costa explains - "Its use in a ventilated façade was key to this project’s success."

For architect Ricardo Rosa Santos, the priority was a high-performance façade system:

“Our main objective was to design a ventilated façade system with high thermal and acoustic performance, reducing energy costs and improving indoor comfort. After evaluating several options, Trespa® Meteon® proved to be the most suitable choice for the cladding material in the ventilated facade system, offering excellent cost-benefit performance,” explains Rosa Santos.

Backed by acoustic testing conducted at a third-party institute in accordance with EN-ISO 10140-1:2016, a complete system utilising Trespa® Meteon® panels with rivet fixings to the subframe demonstrated an enhancement in the weighted sound reduction index (ΔRw, heavy): ≥10 dB

A Solution That Delivers

These projects showcase the numerous benefits of using Trespa® Meteon® in ventilated façades—from its versatile aesthetic appeal to its outstanding functional performance. By meeting, and often surpassing, stringent thermal and acoustic standards, the material demonstrates its adaptability to the demands of contemporary architecture, particularly in complex urban settings. Its proven success underscores Trespa’s unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and design excellence."
