Four Top Exterior Trends from the International Builders' Show®
The NAHB International Builders' Show® was once again held in person in Orlando, Florida February 8-10 after a virtual trade show in 2021. The show welcomed all facets of the housing industry from builders and remodelers to design professionals to discover the latest in product innovations - in total about 70,000 attendees for both IBS and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). The two shows have been co-branded since 2014 as Design and Construction Week™.
The following are our top takeaways in color, material and finish from the show.
Large Scale Panels
This year large panel cladding was a feature at the show, a result of homeowners desiring a more modern aesthetic. The larger panel size is no longer for just contemporary styles, and is quickly finding a place in more traditional housing styles like Farmhouse, Mid-Century Ranch and Cape Cod. It’s no wonder that we’ve been seeing Trespa® Meteon® panels being used for residential homes as homeowners update and renew their exteriors to bring more modernity and curb appeal.
Finishes
Visual texture for home exteriors were abundant at IBS this year! It was seen in the rough surface of stone, in new super matte garage doors, and in new finishes for siding and exterior panels. These visual textures highlight a home’s unique architectural features while bringing added interest.
Textured panels are the easiest and most impactful way to add character to an exterior. Trespa® Meteon® offers a range of finishes that can be mixed and matched to create an individual aesthetic.
Dark Earthy Colors
Exterior home colors that communicate strength and stability create a safe haven that we crave. Dark and earthy home exteriors like Olive Green Lumen in low contrast color combinations are popular for 2022 and add to the sanctuary visual. Colors with green undertones work as complex neutrals and will coordinate with most any uni-color or woodgrain.
Dark exterior colors not your thing? Not to worry! Black and white color palettes for the home are not going anywhere. But you will see whites warm and soften, like Athens White, which is new for Pura® NFC this year.
Rustic Woods
Wood continues to be a vehicle to naturalize an exterior and make it more welcoming while also connecting us to nature. Woods at IBS were more rustic and featured knots as well as texture. Colors were also modified with cerusing, heat treating and charring.
Using wood patterns like Western Red Cedar (new for both Pura® NFC and Trespa® Meteon®) and French Walnut (new for Pura® NFC) help to incorporate this biophilic trend that will bring warmth and simplicity.
