Trespa International B.V. in the Netherlands and Arpa Industriale S.p.A. in Italy produce High Pressure Laminates (HPL). HPL consists of layers of cellulose fibre,  kraft paper, impregnated with thermosetting resins and bonded through the combined action of heat and pressure. Both companies are owned by Broadview Holding B.V.

The R & D is centralized to Weert which is around 30 km from Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Trespa International B.V. is now seeking an exceptional individual, who as a Lead Chemist – Resin Specialist will be responsible for the conceptual thinking of future resin strategy (landscaping the existing solutions, evaluation, networking with research institutes etc. ) and the management and execution of development projects related to the phenol formaldehyde and melamine formaldehyde binder resin portfolio.

Lead Chemist will work both for Trespa and Arpa.

The new Lead Chemist will have, amongst others, the following tasks and responsibilities

  • Analyze current product range with its technical specifications.
  • Project management and execution of R&D projects in order to introduce new resin solutions (incremental development for existing resins, more radical development which includes looking alternatives for phenol and / or formalin and also giving a support for Capex projects related to resin production).
  • Ongoing R&D activities, including range optimization, product improvements, new product development, starting from the resin synthesis “at the bench” in the resin laboratory, via the pilot scale to the final production scale on factory.
  • Build and maintain the network in the resins field, including suppliers, research institutes, associations and other companies active in the resin field.

The person Trespa seeks has at least 3 - 5 years of relevant experience working in an industrial R & D environment (preferably in the reactive chemical industry) having successfully managed and executed R & D projects in an international environment. Most ideally the person has gained R & D experience in the field of phenol formaldehyde and/or melamine formaldehyde resin binder systems, or is willing to familiarize himself/herself fast with the topic. In addition, it is an added value if the candidate has knowledge about biomass polymers.

Integrity, organizational commitment and the ability to make decisions based on clarity of thought and persuasive arguments is critical. The right person for the job is experienced in leading by influencing in an environment where collaboration, communication and support of operations is the key to success. This person is a self-motivated professional, with a straightforward approach to problem solving. Combining pragmatism with an in-depth understanding of what it takes to succeed in this position will be important to success. He/she  has the talent to communicate at all levels, internally and externally in a multicultural environment.

Proficiency in English is a requirement - other languages like Italian, Dutch and German are considered to be an asset.

The person holds a solid university education, preferably in organic chemistry.

The location of the position will be at the Trespa International offices in Weert, The Netherlands, but will involve up to 30 % travel.
