Trespa introduces CE mark

With new EN 438-7 European legislation regarding building products due to come into force on 1 November 2006, Trespa International has announced that its range of building materials will carry CE marking with immediate effect - to indicate that its range of HPL panels fully complies with the requirements of the new European standard.

The need for CE marking covers compact laminate and HPL composite panels for internal and external wall and ceiling finishes. The standard was developed and introduced in January 2005 by a specific CEN committee, consisting of industry specialists and technical experts representing the industry with a cross section of various nationalities from around Europe. Only materials meeting this required standards will be allowed to carry the CE marking. They need to meet a range of key requirements such as mechanical stability and resistance, safety, hygiene, energy economy and protection against both fire and noise.

Legal Requirement

Adoption of the new CE marking becomes a legal requirement in November 2006, however, Trespa International has decided to introduce CE marking with immediate effect - as its products meet the standard today. According to Chris van der Vorst, Business Development Engineer for Trespa International, CE marking will help customers to gain better understanding of the workings of the new legislation: "We believe that we need to help customers now to identify which products meet the required standard at an early stage. By providing information today, customers will be able to assess material properties and performance requirements ahead of the November 2006 introduction."

Jörg Kaufung, Product Manager Exterior Products for Trespa International adds: "The new CE mark will help Architects, Designers and Specifiers to understand the performance of the panels they are selecting for their projects. It will provide greater transparency and speed up the specification process, as only products that have been certified can be used."
